A Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer with a medical marijuana prescription thinks he should be able to smoke the drug while in uniform, but the RCMP says he can’t smoke marijuana while in red serge or while wearing his regular working uniform.

Francis told CBC News marijuana has helped him to calm down and reduces his PTSD symptoms. His prescription allows for three grams a day, which he estimates to be nine to 15 joints, though he said he doesn’t typically smoke that much.

“I get up in the morning, have my coffee and the marijuana. I go at lunchtime, have a marijuana joint, and then again in the evening. That would be my medical regime. But that may change with my tolerance to THC. It may take two joints in the morning, I don’t know,” said Francis.

“I’m just building up my immunity to THC levels, if I was to smoke two I’d probably get stoned to the point that I’m just totally relaxed. I’m still functional. But your nervous system is relaxed, and that makes a big difference,” he said.

Francis, who is currently assigned to administrative duties, said smoking marijuana has no negative effect on his ability to be a police officer and that he intends to continue smoking on the job.

“There’s no policy in the RCMP that prevents me from smoking marijuana. There’s no policy in the RCMP that says I cannot smoke in public. I have the right to smoke it in my red serge.”

But while the RCMP accepts that Francis’s prescription gives him the right to consume marijuana, the force takes issue with members smoking in public or in uniform.

“Definitely a member that has been prescribed medicinal marijuana should not be in red serge taking his medication,” said RCMP assistant commissioner Gilles Moreau. “It would not be advisable for that member, it would not portray the right message to the general public, it’s definitely not something we would support or condone.”

Moreau said the RCMP has a duty to accommodate members’ medical needs, but also has to consider the effect on other members and on public perceptions.

“Because this is relatively new for active members of the RCMP, we are looking at the internal policies to see, how do we set it up? To say, OK, if somebody is prescribed medical marijuana and they have to take it two or three times a day and have to take it at work, where is this going to take place? If it takes place outside, it has to respect the individual but also their co-workers, and it has to respect the Canadian population at large by taking it in a respectful way.”

The RCMP has the right to challenge medical treatments it considers inappropriate, and to seek a second medical opinion, Moreau said, adding that RCMP will evaluate any member who obtains a medical marijuana prescription.

If they are found to be impaired in judgment or motor skills, the RCMP will place limits on the police functions they’re permitted to perform, he said.

Turned to marijuana after trying anti-depressants

Francis said he experienced stress on the job early in his career, while serving the First Nation in Davis Inlet and in his own community of Kingsclear First Nation. He began to seek treatment for mental distress eight years ago.

At first, his doctors prescribed anti-depressants, but he did not feel any significant improvement.

“I started to self-medicate with alcohol. And I said no, this is not me. Why am I doing this? And I was going through treatment for PTSD at the time, and the RCMP did provide treatment, and I thank the RCMP for that.”

But Francis began to read about alternative treatments, including marijuana, and he eventually left the doctor he was seeing at the occupational stress injury clinic. He switched to a different doctor, who gave him the marijuana prescription.

“When I explored it as a treatment for my PTSD, I had to really make a moral decision about it. Because the RCMP and law enforcement, they seem so anti-marijuana, and that’s a hard thing to overcome, so I had to make that decision for my own health. It wasn’t based on my career or anything.

“It was for my own health. In doing that I realized that I have to come first. The organization doesn’t come first, Ron Francis comes first. For my own health. And I’m glad I did that,” he said.

Yes, eating too much sugar widens your backside.
But that’s just the beginning.
The health dangers of sugar continue to grow, and now there’s even evidence that flooding your bloodstream with sugar on a regular basis can also cause memory impairment and decline!


According to German author and neurologist Dr. Agnes Floel, elevated blood sugar levels (from regularly eating high-carb, high-sugar foods) are fast becoming significant markers for cognitive decline and dementia.
In a recent study of 141 participants performed at Charite University Medicine in Berlin, researchers measured and compared sugar levels in 2 test groups—one had normal sugar levels and the others’ were elevated.
After testing which included an MRI scan and a word test, the researchers noted that the higher blood sugar participants consistently did worse during the memory assessments than the normal blood sugar group! 
The reason why this happens is because sugar clogs the nutrient channels in all of your cells.  Not only can this weaken your bones and muscles, but it can slow down communication between your nerve cells–which can lead to mood swings, memory problems and eventually dementia.

More ways this “Sweet Poison” destroys your health:
It encourages insulin resistance
Sugar binds to the hormone receptors in your cells, jamming them up making them insensitive to the hormone insulin.
Once you’re insulin resistant, you have opened the door for Type 2 diabetes, more weight gain and even sexual dysfunction!
It ages you
Sugar stiffens the collagen in your tendons, joints and skin, which can lead to arthritis and premature wrinkling.
At the same time it interferes with the production of NEW collagen throughout your entire body, so you get a double whammy here.
It impairs your immune system functioning
Sugar alters the “sensors” that your white blood cells need in order to be able to distinguish normal, healthy tissues and cells from dangerous invaders.
This opens up the door for infections and viruses of all kinds to flourish as well as the development of cancer.
In addition, sugar also weakens your immune system by “slowing down” your white blood cells too.
White blood cells travel through your blood vessels “patrolling” and waiting for an SOS from a tissue that’s injured or inflamed.
Once they sense that their protective services are needed to help you heal and prevent infection, they wiggle out of your blood stream through little spaces between your cells (called the “matrix”) and go to the troubled area to begin their work.
But sugar can react with proteins in your body and “close off” these tiny crawl spaces, thereby preventing your white blood cells from getting where they need to go to protect you. The more of these “sugar blockages” you have, the more your immune function is impaired.

It interferes with your circulation
Your circulation and your red blood cells are affected by sugar too.
Your red blood cells sop up sugar like a sponge in your bloodstream and in doing so, they grow old, stiff and bloated. 
Now, normally your spleen can filter out these worn-out red blood cells by passing them through a series of corridors—and any that are too “puffed up with sugar” get removed from circulation.
But when your blood is consistently overloaded with sugar, your spleen can’t keep up with its fast-growing filtering job.  Eventually, the puffy red blood cells can build up and clog your capillaries.
This is what’s happening when diabetics go blind and develop numbness in their feet and gangrenous infections.
It can cause dysbiosis
Sugar also harms the important little inhabitants in your gut, and this is another sugar double whammy.
About 70% of your immune system resides in the beneficial bacteria (AKA friendly flora) in your gut.
Also residing in your gut are “bad guys”–harmful bacteria and yeasts–that you can get from your food and the environment.
In order to have a strong flora balance (and hence an effective immune system), many experts recommend that you strive to have at least 85% friendly bacteria in your gut and no more than 15% harmful.
Your friendly flora is nourished by things like vegetables, fermented foods, whole grains and legumes.
The harmful bacteria, on the other hand, LOVE sugar.
So when you give your body a regular onslaught of sugar not only are you starving your beneficial bacteria, but you’re feeding the dangerous ones.
This can cause dysbiosis (harmful bacteria overgrowth), which can not only make your immune system practically non-existent, but it also can hamper your digestion causing gas, bloating and anything-but-normal BMs.
What to do
If you suspect you are suffering the health effects of too much sugar, in addition to seeing your doctor to rule out Type 2 diabetes (among other things), it’s absolutely VITAL to change your diet to replace most of the refined sugar with healthy, complex carbs.

Having a more healthy diet can certainly help reverse your flora balance into the more healthy range, but for many people it’s not enough. This is especially true if you take medications of any kind (particularly antibiotics or acid reducers), are under a fair amount of stress, drink tap water or are exposed to pollutants in the environment or on your job.  All of these factors can also upset your flora balance.
A quality probiotic supplement can be very helpful for most people. there may be some initial discomfort but persrvere through it and experience substantial health improvements.
Speak to an expert at your local health food store or a naturopath. Get Pre-biotic and Pro-biotics with multiple strains of potent, friendly bacteria to help beef up your flora population and bring your balance to a more health-enhancing level, and help you “recover” from a long history of being a sugar-holic.
Take the necessary steps to minimize sugar’s harmful effects on your body…and I’m sure it will thank you many times over!

I am a sugar-holic. The Oxygen Spa mentioned in my previous post cleared up a 20 year yeast infection and has kept my yeast in balance for 5 years now. Unless you suffer from a thyroid condition, it is easy to ignore the function of the thyroid gland. Although small, this endocrine gland – situated just below your neck – plays a big role in regulating metabolic processes in your body. Licorice

This herb is important in maintaining a balance among glands so that thyroid patients who often suffer from fatigue have improved energy. Because of bugleweed’s effectiveness in alleviating mild hyperthyroidism, some experts believe it can gradually replace regular taking of maintenance medications like methimazole or PTU.

Ashwaganda

This is an herb with antioxidant properties that directly works on the thyroid by producing just the right amount of hormones. Aside from hormonal balance, ashwaganda is known to help the body fight stress by improving the immune system and has been found to have anti-inflammatory effects.

Bacopa

Researchers confirm the potency of bacopa as a thyroid stimulating drug to fight hypothyroidism. It has been found to regulate thyroid hormone concentrations by as much as 41% without adverse reactions.

Eleuthero

Popular as Siberian ginseng, eleuthero is considered a wonder herb for people suffering from hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Siberian ginseng is believed to be effective in treating hypothyroidism by regulating the levels of hormones in the body. Furthermore, this potent herb contains substances that assist in the normal functioning of the thymus and adrenal glands.

Bladderwrack

Aside from hypothyroidism, bladderwrack is considered as an essential herb for many health conditions. This algae or seaweed contains high levels of natural iodine which is known to stimulate the thyroid gland. A friend Nina, was plagued by thyroid problems. They were unable to stabilize her thyroid function with medication so she kept swinging between hyper and hypo – hypothyroidism. My body has been deprived of leafy greens this summer. It has been so hot here in Nashville, that no greens stood a chance to grow in the blazing heat. Last week, I saw a familiar friend at the Market – KALE! I couldn’t believe it. For me this marked the end of the summer, and the promise of cooler temperatures to come.

So I over zealously bought 5 bunches, which set me back about $15. I didn’t care, I had kale.

Once I got home I realized that I couldn’t really fit all 5 bunches in my refrigerator, so I needed to deal with it in the next day or so. So I decided to make up a big batch of kale pesto that I could freeze. (Recipe)

After receiving lots of messages via twitter about what else people could do with kale, I figured I’d better help ya’ll out and offer a few ways to prepare it. It’s no secret that kale is one of nature’s super foods, and getting it into your diet is worth the effort.

10 Ways to Prepare Kale

  1. Kale Chips – This simple preparation of kale will have you begging for more. A crispy salty treat that is better than popcorn or potato chips.
  2. Kale Pesto – More flavorful than basil pesto, this is a great addition to pizza, pasta, or in an omelet.
  3. Sauteed Kale – For a hearty side dish, this is a classic preparation. I saute onions and garlic before I add the kale, and add a couple dashes of hot sauce for an added kick.
  4. Kale Quiche – You can substitute any spinach quiche with kale and it offers the same great taste with the added health benefits.
  5. Kale Soup – A classic kale soup is made with white beans and ham or sausage, however I like this recipe of using acorn squash and kale to create a sweet and savory winter favorite.

Overall, kale is a delicious and hearty green. Treat it like spinach and you can substitute it in just about any recipe. Experiment and enjoy!

The lymphatic system is the garbage collection system of the body.

The majority of the fluid that is carried by the lymphatic system consists of waste deposits from the cells. Each of us has the same amount of lymph as blood in our body. The only thing difference in the lymphatic system compared to the circulatory system is that it does not have a pump.

Lymph fluid is pumped through the vessels via the contraction of our muscles, our body’s own electro-magnetic field and even breathing. This is one of the many benefits of exercise because it moves lymph. A sluggish or clogged lymphatic system doesn’t allow the body to circulate the fluids and eliminate toxic waste buildup which can decrease the body’s immune function. As a result, there is an increase in swelling, inflammation and pain along with the possibility of contracting other diseases. Think of lymph nodes as small filters that can corner bacteria and prevent other nasty ‘surprises’ from invading your body. If they fail, those nodes may become infected with secondary tumors.

The Importance of the Lymphatic System

This is why our lymph system is CRITICAL when it comes to purging our body of waste material! It’s also responsible for distributing nutrients to each and every part of our body. How does the lymph system work? As stated, it doesn’t have a pump like the circulatory system’s heart so the lymph system “PUMPS” the lymph through the body when you EXERCISE!
Do you know what all of this means? It means you need to be active and exercise if you want to heal! This is why couch potatoes tend to develop chronic conditions earlier than those who exercise regularly and STICK to a healthy diet!

The lymph (which is basically recycled blood plasma) needs balanced chemistry within its structure to function properly in that system. This is why it needs to be healthy or full of the nutrients to stay fit, which is what a proper pH level can give it.

In order to maintain adequate pH levels, you need to have appropriate amounts of minerals such as calcium, magnesium and trace elements in your soft tissues. This is what gives the lymphatic system its fluidity. In other words, balanced lymph chemistry is essential for lymph to transport the minerals needed in the cells in order to re-alkalinize or balance the chemicals in the soft tissue. This in turn allows minerals to remain in the cell solution long enough to reach the cells.

To make this scenario possible, appropriate amounts of HCL need to be supplied by the body so that you can absorb the vital minerals needed to help your lymphatic system. In other words, you need adequate amounts of stomach acid (HCL) to digest your food.

Lymph is more than just waste, it is an amalgamation of enzymes, nutrients, sugars, cytokines and a other vital chemicals that coat the cells. As my good friend, Dr. Kevin Conners, likes to say, lymph is like “a healthy river, needing a constant flow of fresh nourishments, which prevents our body from turning it into a stagnant pond.”

Lymph is normally pumped throughout the whole body in lymph vessels as the muscles in your body contract and relax. These vessels also contain check valves that permit the passage of waste in one direction only. If your lymphatic system slows down, it will prevent the circulation of necessary nutrients, thus dulling the response of the immune system at the same time!

Do you know what that means? It means you will be highly susceptible to hidden infections that a strong immune system typically nips in the bud.

As you grow old, the amount of HCL that your body produces decreases. This decrease is caused by several factors such as eating processed or junk food, using illegal and legal drugs, and excess stress. However, some researchers back in the 1930’s discovered that this acid (HCL) is not the only thing necessary to balance lymph chemistry and balance the minerals needed to alkalinize the tissue. Below are my personal solutions. For me they are very effective in-spite of  me making some less than stellar lifestyle choices daily.  My lymph system and immune system function well so I no longer dread the annual cold and flu season. Because I was asthmatic – I have always been very susceptible to lungs and throat bugs that would persist for extended periods. A terrible cold & flu has been affecting our local area for over 2 months.  A couple of weeks ago I woke up with it at 4:00 am.  The dreaded bug had come to visit,  but because my lymph system is now functioning well and I have solutions, within 8 hours, I was fully functional and basically without symptoms.

So what do I do different that is so effective.   I drank some fresh lemon in hot water with honey and grated ginger plus I took some Echinecea and had an Oxygen Spa. By noon. I was still a bit more tired than usual and a tad stuffed up but was otherwise symptom free. 20 years ago – I would have had a high fever , horribly congested lungs and sinuses for at least 3 days followed by harsh coughing, irritated throat and a nose that would not stop running for the following 3 weeks. The cold and flu season was my Achilles heel.

They store well in the fridge and freezer. Because these are simple, easy and enjoyable, my solutions are just naturally part of our life, no big lifestyle changes needed. As a result it is easy to be consistent and benefit from significantly improved lymph and immune function.  What Kind of Coconut Oil?

For external uses, expeller pressed or other types of refined coconut oil will work, but for internal use, an unrefined virgin coconut oil is best. My husband and I both take about 4 tablespoons a day and the kids get a couple tablespoons in food, smoothies, or hot herbal tea.

Cannabis is one of the most powerful healing plants in the world and it makes cancer essentially disappear. Cannabis compounds are responsible for halting the growth factors that are responsible for metastatic growth.

Although there has been scientific evidence that marijuana can shrink and even kill tumors since the 1970s, much of the recent public interest in this research has been inspired by Run From The Cure, a documentary about a Canadian man who claims that the concentrated oil from the cannabis plant has cured his skin cancer. He then tries the cure on a number of other cancer victims in his community with similar results.

There Is No Mistaking The Evidence, Cannabis Cures Cancer

Researchers have now found that the compound, called cannabidiol, has the ability to ‘switch off’ the gene responsible for metastasis in an aggressive form of breast cancer. Importantly, this substance does not produce the psychoactive properties of the cannabis plant.

A team from the California Pacific Medical Center, in San Francisco, first spotted its potential five years ago, after it stopped the proliferation of human breast cancer cells in the lab.

Another Spanish team, led by Dr Manuel Guzmon, wanted to see whether they could prevent a form of cancer (glioblastoma multiforme) from growing by cutting off its blood supply. Glioblastoma multiforme is one of the most difficult cancers to treat – it seldom responds to any medical intervention, especially conventional methods which poisoning and primitively destroy cells such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery.

The mice were given a cancer similar to the human brain cancer (glioblastoma multiforme). The mice were then given cannabinoids and the genes examined. The genes associated with blood vessel growth in tumors through the production of a chemical called vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) had their activity reduced.

Cannabinoids halt VEGF production by producing Ceramide. Ceramide controls cell death.

Dr Guzmon said: “As far as we know, this is the first report showing that ceramide depresses VEGF pathway by interfering with VEGF production.

They then wanted to see if this would also happen with humans. They selected two patients who had glioblastoma multiforme and had not responded to chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgery. The scientists took samples from them before and after treating them with a cannabinoids solution – this was administered directly into the tumor.

Amazingly, both patients experienced reduced VEGF levels in the tumor as a result of treatment with cannabinoids.

Why You Shouldn’t Smoke Cannabis But Drink It Instead

Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention. CBD (Cannabidiol), one of the main constituents of the cannabis plant has been proven medically to relieve many diseases including the inhibition of cancer cell growth

Recent studies have shown it to be an effective atypical anti-psychotic in treating schizophrenia. CBD also interferes with the amount of THC your brain processes, balancing the psychotropic effect of marijuana. That is precisely why the power of raw cannabis is turning heads 

Cannabinoids can prevent cancer, reduce heart attacks by 66% and insulin dependent diabetes by 58%. Cannabis clinician Dr. William Courtney recommends drinking 4 – 8 ounces of raw flower and leaf juice from any Hemp plant, 5 mg of Cannabidiol (CBD) per kg of body weight, a salad of Hemp seed sprouts and 50 mg of THC taken in 5 daily doses.

“If you heat the plant, you will decarboxylate THC-acid and you will get high, you”ll get your 10 mg. If you don’t heat it, you can go up to five or six hundred milligrams & use it as a Dietary Cannabis. . . and push it up to the Anti-oxidant and Neuro-protective levels which come into play at hundreds of milligrams,” stated Dr. William Courtney.

“The amount of Cannabinoids we need would be difficult to get through smoked Cannabis without feeling the intoxicating effects,” said Kristen Courtney.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) maintains our biological systems by regulating each cell tissue. It uses Arachadonic acid/Omega 6 to make Endo-Cannabinoids: fatty molecules that communicate harm between cells. Dietary Cannabis mimics the ECS by providing Cannabinoids when there is an Arachadonic acid deficiency or Clinical Cannabinoid Deficiency.

Patients suffering from end stage Cancer need to eat buds whole. Plants sprayed with anything shouldn’t be juiced, but some pests are edible, such as Spider mites. To prepare leaves for a juicer, avoid rinsing – soak them in water for 5 minutes.

Masticating juicers are efficient for leaves, buds and sprouts; a centrifugal juicer may need additional vegetables to chop fibers. To preserve juice fill containers so that air is minimized; a dose of juice frozen in an ice cube tray retains medicinal value.

Cannabis is a Class B drug that is illegal to have, give away or sell. “If cannabis were discovered in an Amazon rainforests today, people would be clambering to make as much use as they could out of the potential benefits of the plant,” said Donald L. Abrams, MD, Chief of Hematology and Oncology at San Francisco General Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University California. Dr. Abrams is widely known for his research on medical cannabis applications. “Unfortunately, it carries with it a long and not so long history of being a persecuted plant,” he added.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s documentary on CNN this summer really opened my eyes. When someone with his reputation is willing to publicly support the use of medical marijuana, it is time to take a step back and look into what he is saying.

It is a little different than some I have seen in the past as to some of the locations.  I have massaged the area between the thumb and index finger to effectively relieve headaches. That area does not seem to be indicated for that purpose on this diagram.  Maybe its time we start to massage our hands when we are hanging out watching TV or just chatting. This Chart and Techniques for Hand Reflexology and Massage of Meridian points shows us where and how to use our own personal power and take charge of our health.

Meridians are a set of pathways in the body along which vital energy is said to flow.. and massage and pressure to these points can open the flow of energy throughout our bodies.. and allow for healing and maintaining a healthy physical.. mental and energetic body.

 

Technique

 

You may use all these techniques in one session, or just one technique, e.g. Pressing, or two techniques, e.g. Rubbing and Pressing.

 

1. Rubbing: Begin by briskly rubbing your hands (palms) together to warm them up and generate energy (qi) in them. Also rub the back of each hand (including fingers) with the palm of the other hand.

 

2. Squeezing: Use your thumbpad and outside edge of your index finger to squeeze each finger and thumb on the other hand, one by one, from base to tip. Use firm but not painful pressure. Do this 2-3 times per finger/thumb.

 

3. Pulling: Use your thumbpad and the outside edge of your index finger to grasp the base of each finger and thumb on the other hand, one by one, then quickly pull down towards the tip while maintaining firm but not painful pressure. Do this 2-3 times per finger/thumb.

 

4. Pressing: Use the tip of your thumbnail to press and stimulate points on the opposite hand. Use this printable hand reflexology chart to locate common hand pressure points. Apply vertical pressure to each point with your thumbnail (or sometimes your fingernail). Press until you feel no more than a comfortable pain. Hold the pressure and knead the point with very small circular movements. Do this for 1-2 minutes per point. Repeat 1-2 times a day.

 

Choosing Points for Pressing

 

All hand pressure points are bilateral, i.e. they’re located on both hands. Generally, you would massage 3 or 4 points (on both hands), 1-2 times a day. Hand pressure points do adapt to stimulation though, so after 7 days stop for 3 or 4 days. If your condition and symptoms persist, continue for another week (or more), OR choose new points to press and rub.

 

We haven’t personally tested the theory… but if it’s something we can do for ourselves… even during our lunch hour… We say why not give it a try?

1. Your brain operates on the same amount of power as a 10 watt light bulb

The human brain uses about 200 kilocalories per day, which equates to approximately 10 watts of power. For comparison’s sake, that’s about 10 percent of the power that it takes to run a 100-watt light bulb. So the cartoon image of a light bulb over your head when a great thought occurs isn’t too far off the mark. Your brain generates as much energy as a small light bulb even when you’re sleeping.

2. Every 7 years your body completely replaces itself

25,000,000 of your cells died while you read this sentence. It’s okay though, your body made more than 300 billion new ones today.
The cells that make up your body are dying and being replaced all the time. This happens so often that about every 7 years you have a completely new body of cells. While this is true for most cells, such as the cells lining the stomach, some of the most important cells in your body (those of your bones, your brain, and your heart) don’t regenerate much at all, so treat them with care.

3. Nerve impulses to and from the brain travel as fast as 250 miles per hour

High sodium intake as a source of high blood pressure has been an unchallenged dogmatic mantra for decades. But a few renegade MDs, several naturopaths, and chiropractors have challenged the unproven hypothesis of salt being the basis of high blood pressure (HBP). Turns out that the link between high sodium intake and elevated blood pressure is a false one.

Pure, unrefined salt is actually a necessary and helpful dietary component. Perhaps the most well known salt promoter is Dr. David Brownstein, MD, author of Salt Your Way to HealthRefined commercial table salt, used excessively in processed foods, is processed with toxic chemicals and stripped of its inherent nutritional value. It’s mostly poison with very little nutrition, though even using table salt often won’t lead to high blood pressure.

Actually, those with high blood pressure (and everyone, really) should just consume more foods rich in potassium. Meta-analysis’ show how low potassium intake has the same impact on blood pressure as high salt consumption – the real problem is an imbalance between sodium and potassium.

It appears the new HBP dietary villain could be high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which has been already linked to obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular health issues.

HFCS is more commonly used in processed foods, fruit juices, sweets, and sodas than cane or beet sugar. It’s cheaper than sucrose (table sugar), and satisfies the “sweet tooth” SAD (standard American diet) consumers’ desire.

According to the USDA, HFCS consumption has increased significantly from 1970 to 2005, and it is now the number one source of empty calories in America. In fact, Americans eat approximately 35 lbs on average of high-fructose corn syrup each year.

How HFCS Contributes to Hypertension or High Blood Pressure

Fructose in fruit is tied to several other nutritional compounds that balance out fructose’s negative aspects. But fructose isolated from corn and made into a syrup is too much for the body to metabolize. Even table sugar metabolizes better.

Robert H. Lustig, MD, a Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explains how the rise in HFCS use over the past three to four decades is behind the obesity and diabetes epidemic, both of which contribute to high blood pressure.

HFCS or “corn sugar” or “corn syrup” initiates a toxic overload from insufficient metabolism. The liver doesn’t convert isolated, concentrated fructose into energy well and stores it as fat instead. Add this to the dangers of GMO corn with traces of extremely toxic glyphosate herbicides and mercury as a byproduct from the conversion process. This toxic overload leads to obesity, fatty liver, other liver complications, and kidney disease.

Dr. Richard Johnson of the University of Colorado has been a researcher of investigations into HFCS and high blood pressure. His research revealed definite links of high HFCS consumption to high blood pressure.

What’s more, one of the toxic waste products remaining in the body from regular HFCS consumption is uric acid. A test of 17 subjects with high uric acid counts showed all 17 with high blood pressure. Uric acid inhibits nitric oxide (NO) in the blood vessels.

Nitric oxide is a volatile gas that helps maintain blood vessel elasticity. When that elasticity decreases, blood pressure increases.   • Osteoporosis Protection – Several studies have found a relation between increased bone density and increased intake of dietary potassium. These studies were true even for post menopausal women and older men.2-4
