Five different masks for each type of hair that you can be easily make in a couple of minutes using all-natural ingredients. Most of these in ingredients are probably sitting in your refrigerator or cupboard, if not put them on the grocery list!
Dry hair –Olive Oil and Egg OR Coconut Oil and Egg
In need of some major TLC?? Combine three tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil with two eggs and apply the mixture to your hair and let the mixture sit for 20 minutes before rinsing in the shower.
The olive oil will help hydrate brittle locks, while the protein in the eggs will promote healthy hair growth.
(Switch it up and use Coconut Oil in place of Olive Oil. Coconut oil has numerous benefits for both hair and skin. It is nutrition for all hair types, helping hair to shine, softening hair, remedying damaged hair by helping to preserve the hair’s natural proteins and can even provide relief from dandruff.[2, And there’s more––the lauric acid in coconut oil has both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.)
All hair types — Avocado and Honey
Mash a ripened avocado and mix in a tablespoon of organic honey and allow it to sit for 20 minutes before rinsing it off in the shower.
Avocados are rich in a variety of vitamins and nutrients, including vitamin E and protein, both of which your hair needs to remain soft and healthy. Honey is a natural antibacterial agent as well as having many healing benefits.
Oily hair — Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon
Combine 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar with the grated peel of an entire lemon and allow it to set for 15 minutes to absorb the excess oil from your scalp, and then rinse in the shower.
( I would mix this up in the blender so the peel of the lemon becomes liquefied. That would make a smoother more uniform mask for the hair.)
Apple cider vinegar will remove build up from styling products and conditioners and strengthen the hair shaft, leaving you with soft, shiny strands. It will also balance hair’s pH level, kill bacteria, and is a cure for dandruff. (Apple Cider Vinegar is the best but in a pinch – white vinegar will work. When I was young and mom and dad were going somewhere special like a wedding, mom would rinse her hair in Vinegar. Rinsing her hair in the vinegar made it just gleam and almost sparkle.)
Dry, flaky scalp hair — Banana, Honey and Almond
Mash together 1/2 a ripe banana and add two tablespoons of honey and a few drops of almond oil and allow it to set with a shower cap on for 20 minutes before rinsing.
Bananas can increase the moisture of your hair, smooth frizz and soothe your itchy scalp.
** Handy Tips**
1. I save good empty shampoo squeeze bottles and put my masks in them so the masks are easier to apply and less messy.
2. I use raw honey when I can get it as it is more complete.
3. I put my mask that is in the reclaimed shampoo container in hot water for a few minutes before I apply it – when they are luke warm they are more liquid. I have a plastic pitcher in the bathroom I just fill with hot water before I start my shower. It sits on the shower/tub floor while I shower until I am ready to apply it. NEVER MICROWAVE – YOU ARE DESTROYING ALL OF THE BENEFITS.
4. When my daughters were teens – I would make triple batches, separate them into 3 bottles and store the girls bottles in the fridge and they would do the masks when it was convenient for them. Mondays and Fridays mornings seemed to their favorite hair mask days.
5. I freeze Over- Ripe Avocados peel and all – pop them in hot water for a couple of minutes and they work great. Over- ripe avocados are often found on the discount rack in your grocery store.
6. If you have long hair or an abundance of hair consider doubling these recipes.
