Bananas – A Super-food Superstar

Bananas – A Super-food Superstar

This is interesting. After reading this, you’ll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars – sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes.

But energy isn’t the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

DEPRESSION:
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS:
Forget the pills – eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

ANEMIA:
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

BLOOD PRESSURE:
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit’s ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

BRAIN POWER:
200 students at a Twickenham school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

CONSTIPATION:
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

HANGOVERS:
One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

HEARTBURN:
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

MORNING SICKNESS:
Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

MOSQUITO BITES:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

NERVES:
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system..

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

ULCERS:
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicle ulcer cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL:
Many other cultures see bananas as a ‘cooling’ fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has FOUR TIMES the protein, TWICE the carbohydrate, THREE TIMES the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals.. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, ‘A BANANA a day keeps the doctor away!’

God’s Pharmacy ~ & ~ 1 Ounce Powehouse!

GOD’S PHARMACY

God left us a great clues as to what foods help which part of our body!

The human body responds best to nutrition in the form of Natural Whole Foods. Food such as plants and herbs were recognized for their curative powers and were the original source for early medicine.

The wisdom of the ages still holds as true for today as it did all those thousands of years ago when it was first taught by Hippocrates  – The Father of Western Medicine.

Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”

Fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds are most nutritious & most powerful when eaten raw.
When raw  doesn’t work, the next best choice to get the most nutritional value is to lightly steam.
Grains and rice typically require the most cooking and moisture to make them digestible – I have an awesome 3 level steamer/rice cooker that is a joy to work with. It saves energy and space too.
No more boiling the nutrition out of vegetables and pouring it down the drain.

Thank You to Present-truth.org and Herb Workshop for a lot of this information.

It’s Magical how each food  below resembles the part of the body that it benefits the most.

Writing this today, the Irony of it all struck me and I couldn’t help but chuckle.

20 years ago,  Bottled and Water were not commonly found in the same sentence nor were the words Obesity and Epidemic.  Today they are predominant word pairs.  Nutritional insufficiency and dehydration underlay almost all disease in a time when there is more food and water available.

More and more we receive our food as processed, packaged in bags and boxes ~ So much of what is eaten today is not whole foods and when it is it a whole food, it is likely over processed.  We see more people now, than ever before have  box or bag like shapes.  Dieting has become BIG BUSINESS.  It is consistently pointed out that fast and processed foods are playing a “huge” role in the size, shape and health of North Americans. The universe has the last laugh  – too many of us are now the shape of those foods containers.

Too funny~ pun intended – we are the BIG BUTT of Universal Irony!

What we choose to eat shapes us. PUN & TRUTH

Shape your food choices well, because they shape you.

I am so proud of myself – last night I chose to snack on the leftover mixed veggies rather than the absolutely creamy yummy Cherry loaded ice-cream. NOT!  Our freezer is in the garage and it was too cold to go out there and freeze my buns off in my slippers and jammies.  The steamed veggies drizzled in a bit of butter, sprinkled with ground peppercorns and sea salt were in the fridge. I chose  the easy route – and it was definitely the better choice for my BUTT and my Health. It tasted pretty darn good too.

Big life lesson that I get is – always make the better choices the easier ones so we just naturally opt for them.

No matter who you are,  when you are hungry or tired – fast, easy and tasty always wins over inconvenient and  time consuming. So set your self up so that fast, easy and tasty is always the best choice.  That is why ice cream will always live in the the freezer in the garage not the fridge in the house.  I set myself up so the fast, easy, tasty choice just also happened to be the better SELF CARE choice.

Now to the IMPORTANT PARTS OF THIS POST

It’s been said that God first separated the salt water from the fresh, made dry land, planted a garden.
He made animals and fish… all before making a human.
He made and provided what we’d need before we were born.
~

A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye. The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye… and YES, science now shows carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes.

A Tomato has chambers and is red. The heart has four chambers and is red. All of the research shows tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and are indeed pure heart and blood food.

Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food.

A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums.  Even the wrinkles or folds on the nut are just like the neo-cortex. We now know walnuts help develop more than three (3) dozen neuro-transmitters for brain function.

Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys.

Celery, Bok Choy and many more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don’t have enough sodium in your diet, the body pulls it from the bones, thus making them weak.. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body.

Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female – they look just like these organs. Today’s research shows that when a woman eats one avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and prevents cervical cancers.

And how profound is this?  It takes exactly nine (9) months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemical constituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them).

Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the mobility of male sperm and increase the numbers of Sperm as well to overcome male sterility.

Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics.

Olives assist the health and function of the ovaries

Oranges, Grapefruits, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts.

Onions look like the body’s cells. Today’s research shows onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells. They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes.

A working companion, Garlic, also helps eliminate waste materials and dangerous free radicals from the body.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking & Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body’s water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. Of all the foods above, Figs and Eggplant are the only ones I don’t recall using.

I am a great believer in Prevention. Often we are not be able practice it as fully as we would like to. I have seen first hand  the huge difference nutrition makes in overall health and well-being. Myself and family members have faced challenges such as severe ADHD, IBS and Crohn’s. Nutrition and complimentary medicine solutions, rather than prescriptions and surgeries have allowed our children all of the opportunities life had to offer.

Was it a pain – OH YES – but our lives and bodies are intact and functioning.  That is not the case for so many others we have met on this journey who face the same challenges. Rather than feel helpless and powerless, we chose to take action and it paid off.  Growing our own garden, making all meals and snacks from scratch, reading anything and everything I could get my hands on ~ then making my family take the next promising solution.

Nutrition hands down is what made the biggest difference to everyone.

Pineapples – So Good for You! – Who Knew!

https://i0.wp.com/www.wcrf-uk.org/images/whatsinseason/47.jpg

The pineapple is a member of the bromeliad family. It is extremely rare that bromeliads produce edible fruit. The pineapple is the only available edible bromeliad today.

It is a multiple fruit. One pineapple is actually made up of dozens of
individual floweret’s that grow together to form the entire fruit. Each
scale on a pineapple is evidence of a separate flower.

Pineapples stop ripening the minute they are picked.
No special way of storing them will help ripen them further.
Colour is relatively unimportant in determining ripeness.
Choose your pineapple by smell. If it smells fresh, tropical and
sweet, it will be a good fruit.

The more scales on the pineapple, the sweeter and juicier the
taste.

After you cut off the top, you can plant it.
It should grow much like a sweet potato will.

For FUN – Let your kids to grow their own during the winter,                                                   then stick it in the flower bed for the summer.

This delicious fruit is not only sweet and tropical; it also offers
many benefits to our health. Pineapple is a remarkable fruit.

We find it enjoyable because of its lush, sweet and exotic flavor,
but it may also be one of the most healthful foods available today.
If we take a more detailed look at it, we will find that pineapple
is valuable for easing indigestion, arthritis or sinusitis.

The juice has an anthelmintic effect; it helps get rid of
intestinal worms.

Pineapple is high in manganese, a mineral that is critical to
development of strong bones and connective tissue. A cup of fresh pineapple will
give you nearly 75% of the recommended daily amount.

It is particularly helpful to older adults, whose bones tend to
become brittle with age.

Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme, is the key to pineapple’s value.
Proteolytic means “breaks down protein”, which is why pineapple is
known to be a digestive aid. It helps the body digest proteins more
efficiently.
Bromelain is also considered an effective anti-inflammatory.

Regular ingestion of at least one half cup of fresh pineapple daily
is purported to relieve painful joints common to osteoarthritis. It
also produces mild pain relief.

In Germany , bromelain is approved as a post-injury medication
because it is thought to reduce inflammation and swelling.

Orange juice is a popular liquid for those suffering from a cold
because it is high in Vitamin C. Fresh pineapple is not only high in this
vitamin, but because of the Bromelain, it has the ability to reduce
mucous in the throat. If you have a cold with a productive cough, add pineapple to your
diet.
It is commonly used in Europe as a post-operative measure to cut
mucous after certain sinus and throat operations.

Those individuals who eat fresh pineapple daily report fewer sinus
problems related to allergies. In and of itself, pineapple has a very low
risk for allergies.

Pineapple is also known to discourage blood clot development. This
makes it a valuable dietary addition for frequent fliers and others who
may be at risk for blood clots.

An old folk remedy for morning sickness is fresh pineapple juice.
it really works! Fresh juice and some nuts first thing in the
morning often make a difference.

It’s also good for a healthier mouth. The fresh juice discourages
plaque growth.

Posters note: We just returned from a tropical vacation at an ocean side resort – my sister typically has trouble with her knees at sea level. Just as I was going to pack those last few items for the trip, I was coming down our stairs loaded with toiletries etc you pack up just before you close the suitcase – I missed seeing the cat laying on the stairs. I ended up twisting my knee quite badly . We had fresh pineapple everyday! We noticed our knees didn’t hurt and were both quite surprised. Now I understand.
